Why donate?
Within 106 is an independent resource funded entirely by Of Next Kin. It's a proof of concept that could only happen if we built it ourselves. Donations are welcomed because they go towards keeping the lights on and web servers running. Every bit helps.
What are donations used for, exactly?
We try to be as transparent as possible regarding our operating costs. They’re comprised of:
- Web hosting via Digital Ocean and Serverpilot
- Paid third parties like Google Maps, Airtable and Formspree. Whilst these services offer free tiers, we pay for their higher plans to deliver the best possible experience on Within 106.
- Ongoing content sourcing and management
- Web development
- and the occasional pub meal for unpaid volunteers
There is no CEO to pay, or a board to appease, or backdoor tunnelling of funds... what you see in the directory is where donations go.
I've seen ads for Within106. Are donations used for those?
At the moment, no. All advertising is paid for out of our own pockets.
How much should I donate?
As little or as much as you like. No pressure!
Are donations tax-deductible?
No. We’re not a listed charity or non-profit organisation, so we can’t offer a 100% tax deductible donation. What we do offer is a curated directory that isn't pay-to-play — and appeal to your sense of community and altruism to help us do so.
